Next Years Paint Splodgery

Way, way, way back
when I first started doing this blog over two years ago, it was there to keep me doing a daily drawing to get the old scribbling skills up to snuff.

For 2010, I've decided I'm going to do the same with value painting - the popular method of knocking it up in black and white then colouring over it twixt the lines.

Cat anim

Oggle this animated gif which shows the steps.

Here's a quick youtube video from sleepy sounding Dave Rapoza which explains this fancy dan method.

The first one is above, it done took me an hour-ish to do. Ideally, I should be able to turn one out every day but more realistically, it will probably every two to three.

The Bumper Book of Marmite

The Bumper Book of Marmite, which I've drawn five illustrations for, is finally out just in time for Christmas. It would make a good idea for a Christmas or birthday present.

See all the illustrations for it here.

Online shop move

I've just shifted my online shop to Bigcartel after trying Etsy for a while, and not being that impressed with it.

Buy some top quality tat here that you can fob off as Christmas or flat warming presents.

Get yerself a portrait painted

I'm now taking orders for portraits, so if anyone wants a portrait done of someone for Christmas get in quick now. More details here.

New work, some bits and also some bobs

I have been proper busy over the last few months that I haven't had a chance to post anything.

Firstly, the big news is I've just finished some illustrations for The Great Big Bumper Book of Marmite by Absolute Press on the subject of Marmite Through History.

It should be out within the first few weeks of October, pending deadlines and whatnot.

Squidge Magazine is coming along nicely, so far I've had interviews with Carlton Hibbert, Cory Godbey, Adam Cadwell, David Lyttleton and Steve Tillotson of Banal Pig with a few goodies coming up in the next few months.

I've also changed my website details and email, my main site is now at www.edclews.com and email is ed@edclews.com although all the old pagettypol bits still work.

I've got a few other odds and sods work around - I did a concept pic for a friends film for a 48 hour competition called Open Season.

That's it for the moment, more news in the next week or so.

Busy busy busy

I've been ultra busy over the last few months. Started a new project which might see the light of day by November, doing prints (available at http://www.eclews.etsy.com), some other wink wink hush hush bits, looking for a job and and now writing for Squidge Magazine.

To start off, I've interviewed Steve Tillotson of the fantastic Banal Pig.

Look at the interview here: http://squidgemag.com/2009/07/interview-with-artist-steve-tillotson/

More interviews coming soon.

Buy Some Stuff - New prints on sale

I've finally got some prints up for sale. The first two are ideal for kids from a monster series I did earlier last year. The second are from the ongoing Pop Portrait series I'm doing.

Please do your bit for starving British artists and give me some pie moneys.

Go here for the prints.

PS the prices are in dollars as it's a US company but they're all posted by me from Yorkshire so no daft overseas import/export crap charges.

Chris Vs Cinema

Young Chris has taken on the task of watching and reviewing a years worth of films, and I've done him a header for his wordpress redesign/jiggle about. He's covered quite a broad area so far, from a few classics to some right tat. He'll also take suggestions on what to view and people have been sending him dvd's already.

He also appears on Sheffield Live Film File, so you can listen to his sonorous tones deliver a verdict on Hannah Montana and Taken.

Presumably, at the end of this venture, he'll come back with worn goggley eyes and crooked fingers from all the typing.

Quickie

Just a quickie trying out a new technique by applying colour values first, then overlaying colours. This took about 50 odd minutes (the same length as a Word podcast).

A long deserved break

That's it, I've done one a day for a whole year now (bar one holiday) and right now I could do with a fairly relaxing break.

I'm not going to be sat on my arse however, I've got other longer term things to work on including revamping my website at www.pagettypol.com, starting work on some new books and other things as yet not solidified in the calender. And there's the small case of getting a new job after being laid off at the end of November.

However I am still available for new work, so if anyone wants things drawn for whatever reason, please email me at ed@pagettypol.com.

There's also a full range of prints available at my Redbubble shop as well.

Back soon......
